mission with moxie: why we exist (and who we’re here for)
~4 min read
Moxie. It’s not a trendy word. It’s not a hashtag. It’s an old-fashioned word that means grit, fortitude, and nerve — and honestly, it’s the most accurate word I know to describe every nonprofit organization I’ve encountered and many of the leaders I’ve been alongside in the trenches.
You have moxie. You built something from a mission. You’ve held it together through funding gaps, staff turnover, board transitions, and a pandemic. You keep showing up — not because it’s easy, but because the work matters too much to stop.
That’s exactly who Mission with Moxie was built for.
where i’m coming from
I didn’t stumble into nonprofit work. I grew up in it — parents led nonprofits, volunteer weekends, the whole thing. I chose it professionally because when you work for a mission, it’s hard to settle for work without deeper purpose.
After more than a decade in the sector, I saw a pattern: passionate, capable leaders who were chronically under-resourced — not in vision, not in heart, but in strategy. Marketing that was reactive instead of intentional. Fundraising that leaned on the same five donors year after year. Digital presence that hadn’t been touched since 2018. AI tools sitting on the table that no one had bandwidth to learn.
And when those leaders reached out for help? They got pitched solutions that didn’t fit who we were as an organization, they were solutions designed without our team(s) in mind, and oftentimes too complicated or too unrealistic to implement.
You bring the mission. We bring the strategy.
what “moxie” means here
We named this firm Moxie on purpose — not just because it’s memorable, but because it names something real about the organizations we work with.
Moxie is what it takes to lead a nonprofit. To fundraise with conviction when the account is lean. To tell your story when it feels like nobody’s listening. To try a new strategy when the old one has run out of gas. To keep going.
Our job is to be the strategic partner that helps you channel that moxie into real, measurable momentum — without slowing you down to do it.
who we work with
We work with small to mid-sized nonprofits and mission-based organizations — typically teams where one or two people are wearing four or five hats. The ED who is also the head of marketing, lead fundraiser, and de facto IT department. The development director building a donor pipeline alone.
We work with people who are ready to grow — not just in budget size, but in reach, clarity, and impact. People who are tired of feeling perpetually behind and ready to get ahead.
We work with mission-grounded organizations who have moxie in their drive for impact. If that’s you, you’re in the right place.
what to expect here
This blog is for you. We’ll share practical strategy, honest takes on what’s working (and what isn’t) in the nonprofit world, and real tools you can put to work without needing a 6-month runway to implement them.
No jargon. No condescension. No frameworks that fall apart the minute they hit real life.
Just strategy with moxie. Welcome.
